Helping Students with Education

In addition to the two ENCOMPASS scholarships announced earlier this summer, individual scholarships were established at various high schools and colleges served by ENCOMPASS Benefits.

Some of these scholarships were administered directly by the school themselves and others by the Central Okanagan Bursary and Scholarship Society (COBBS).  COBBS is a non-profit society that acts as an administrator for many schools in the Okanagan, receiving applications from students and matching them to scholarships and awards they are eligible for.

This year’s Scholarship recipients are:

  • Heritage Christian School, Kelowna, BC: Ryan Purnell received a $500 scholarship at graduation. Ryan is furthering his education in Forensic Science in preparation to work in the investigative field with Police Services. Ryan has also done volunteer work in Puerto Escondido, Mexico to develop soccer programs and facilities for underprivileged children, and creating a counseling center for abused women and assisting with the outreach programs at local churches.
  • Immaculata Secondary School, Kelowna, BC: Colton Marshall received a $500 scholarship at graduation. Colton plans to complete a four year Bachelor of Arts Degree at UBCO and then complete a three year Law Degree at the University of Calgary with the goal to become a Family Mediation Lawyer.
  • Columbia Bible College, Abbotsford, BC: Mark Tymm received $1,000 as a 3rd year student. Mark will be completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Worship Arts in April 2013 and then plans to further his education with completing his Engineering Degree. Mark’s goal is to be involved in street ministries in East Vancouver and plans to pursue this involvement while he is at UBC completing his studies.
  • Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute, Winnipeg, MB: Kieran Derksen received $500 scholarship at graduation. Kieran is a First Class Honours student that is very much involved in his community as a leader in a community day camp program. Kieran plans to pursue and Engineering Degree at the University of Manitoba.

ENCOMPASS is pleased to support these students as they continue with their studies.
